Pieper High Mascot Auggie the Warrior Celebrates First Birthday

November 5, 2026 - Pieper High School Mascot Auggie the Warrior is celebrating his first birthday this month! Get an inside look into the life of Auggie and what being Auggie has meant to the individual who brings him to life every day.

Q) Who IS Auggie the Warrior?

A) Auggie the Warrior is Pieper High School’s mascot. His goal is to support and cheer on all campus teams and organizations. Auggie strives to excel everyday, and make positive impacts on all who surround him.

Q) Why did you decide to step into the role of Pieper’s most famous warrior, Auggie?

A) Being Auggie has given me far more than an opportunity to represent my school; It has given me friendships, mentorships, and experiences that I never could have imagined. I've met so many new people who I can't imagine not having in my life today. Being able to call these people my friends and mentors is an honor, and ultimately, it's the reason I continued performing as Auggie.

Q) What was the tryout process like for the campus mascot?

A) The tryout process for Pieper High School’s mascot included a one week after-school clinic/practice, followed by tryout day. My tryout involved a 1 ½ - 2 minute skit with music to showcase my interpretation of who Auggie is.

Q) What is your favorite part of being Auggie?

A) Every time I put the suit on is an opportunity to make someone laugh or smile. The opportunity to do something difficult and work to get a laugh or the crowd excited is a challenge I looked forward to everyday. Being able to make an impact big or small on someone is something I care about immensely.

Q) Describe your favorite memory as Auggie.

A) My favorite memory as Auggie would have to be competing at cheer camps, NCA (National Cheer Association) and UCA (Universal Cheer Association). Being able to wake up each day of camp and do something I wasn’t used to and give it my all was thrilling. The achievement of All American Mascot from both NCA and UCA after constant practice and hard work felt amazing. I felt proud, as anyone would feel after an incredible dedication finally paid off. However it wouldn’t mean nearly as much if my new friends and mentors weren’t there to cheer me on.

Q) How do you prepare for special appearances?

A) To prepare for a special appearance is just the same as any performance. I say this because I don’t believe that one performance is any more special than the last. No matter if it was a football game or an appearance at a cheer clinic, my mindset stays the same. I give it my all, not for my own personal recognition, but for the joy of the people. To attract attention to Auggie, but not to distract from whatever event Auggie is invited to attend. This is the mentality Auggie takes into a performance. As well as hydration, that’s equally important.

Q) How has being Auggie impacted your high school experience?

A) Being Auggie has impacted my high school career in many different ways, and if I was given the opportunity to go back and do it again, I would. That being said, to assume everything related to being Auggie is all positive would be wrong. I’m insanely grateful to have such wonderful people in my life, and for the new opportunities. Even though some people may not understand the lifestyle of being a mascot, I’ve come to realize that it’s ok, because I have people in my corner who do understand, and that’s all that matters.

Q) What are some of the challenges that come with being Auggie?

A) Intense dehydration is a main issue that I face as Auggie. On average the inside of Auggie’s suit gets a minimum of 20 degrees hotter than the temperature outside the suit. My parents are a huge factor in contributing to my breaks to ensure that I stay hydrated and rested properly. Minimal visibility is also an issue. I have to use all my senses to ensure that I don’t bump into people or things! I’ve also had a few close calls turning around, my helmet fin is really big. The fin also works as a sail in the wind, which adds to the overall challenges.

Q) What are your plans after high school?

A) My plans after high school are to attend college, and hopefully get involved with UCA or NCA as a staff member. This way I can coach other mascots who are in similar positions. I would also like to be a mascot at whichever university I get the privilege of attending.

Q) What advice do you have for students interested in participating as mascot?

A) For students interested in mascoting, I would simply say, “do it.” There are many reasons why I would advocate for someone to try out a mascot, but a big one is the fact that it is as difficult as it seems. To many people it may seem out of the ordinary to do something as extroverted as this, but you have the capability to do difficult things and challenge yourself. Furthermore, you have the capacity to learn from these difficult things.

Being able to represent your school in such a unique way is an honor that few experience. As I close in on my first calendar year as Auggie, I would like to thank all who made a positive impact and supported me. In my mind, nothing I can say or do would ever come close to everything you all have done for me. Each of you all have helped me in some way, and pushed me to continue on as Auggie. For that I am forever grateful. Auggie would not be the same without you all. Thank you.

Thank you Auggie the Warrior for making a positive impact on your Path to Success!
