Graduation 2021: Comal ISD Student, National Merit Scholarship Winner

June 7, 2021 - Four Comal ISD graduating seniors were National Merit Finalists this year, and one was a National Merit Scholarship Winner.

These recent graduates were among the top 1 percent of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test in 2019.

From Smithson Valley High School, Emma Kirchhoff, who was this year’s SVHS valedictorian, received a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. She plans to study bioengineering at Rice University in the fall.

From Canyon High School, Philip Templeman, this year’s CHS valedictorian and UIL Academic gold medalist, was a National Merit Finalist. He plans to attend the University of Notre Dame to study physics in the fall.

From Canyon Lake High School, Madison Crowder was a National Merit Finalist. She is currently enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard and will attend Texas A&M University to study political science.

Thomas Conner from SVHS was a National Merit Finalist and plans to major in computer engineering and aspires to be a software engineer.
